did the biting thing when they were young.  Your 2 1/2 month old ferret
may have just grown out of his biting stage by the time you bought him.
 
America West allows you bring ferrets in a carry on under your seat.  They
charge $50 each way and you have to show them a Health check up from your
vet (you can get this no sooner then 10 days before you leave).
