As you may know we took our DEW Lily to have a exploratory surgery
suspecting Adrenal problems. As it turns out Lily did have a tumor and
it was on the side with the Vena Cava . The Doctor scraped as much of
the tumor as he could with out damaging the Vain.

I dont think we understand how hard these surgeries are on these little
ferrets until we go through it. I will recap the nights events for those
of you that have not been through this. As reading might help people who
may have a first time surgery expected on their fur babies.

Lily had a horrible time trying to shake the anesthesia . Then as the
night went on she continued to seep blood from her incision to spite
stitches. We made a return trip to the vet they said she was not
bleeding inside so they just added the glue.

Then finally at about 3 am I woke Sandi because Lily looked so bad. She
was dehydrated and Sandi gave her Sub Q fluids. Luckily Sandi knows what
she is doing and has these type of supplies on hand. Finally after 2
treatments of fluid, Lily perked up enough to pick up her head and be
feed some soup. By morning we prepared to leave for a 5 hour trip
home. I felt like I was carrying fine china at this point.

Lily did good on the trip. She got to hot in the car once but we cranked
the air and gave her water and things straightened out quickly. Lily is
getting better now, she will eat soup from a bowl on her own when
offered. I think we had a very close touch and go episode with Lily. I
am so thankful I was able to stay with Sandi (the owner of Heaven Scent
rescue) for the night. I think with out her we would have lost Lily.

And today 3 days later, Lily will eat soup and Ferret Vite very well,
still no kibble though. I am going to wet and heat a little to see if
that will tempt her. If not then I will ground more kibble and add it to
the soup thickening it up a little each time. Her incision looks good,
but she is stiff and sore.

I cant say how very hard these type of things are on a ferret. I have
had other pets all my life and never seen it be so rough. Goes to show
being 2 pounds is not easy.

I thank all of you for the prayers and positive thoughts when I mentioned
us going. I think every bit helped. This has been rough and I am just
praying Lily stays on the up hill. We would be lost without her. Best
of all we both got kisses yesterday from her. That was great!

BIG thanks and Hugs to Sandi Robinson!!

Dooks,
Ladyhawk
