Is there anyway you can get a note from your vet saying the ferret needs
supportive care and you're keeping him home to get him back on course?
I would then purchase a replacement pet for the class, like a leopard
gecko, which is a very easy lizard to care for.  This lizard could be
left alone for the weekend.
