The following is not intended or to be construed as a flame. I believe that
rational discussion is one key to finding truth. Now lemme at 'im

Mason made some valid points (here it comes) but.... It is possible that
the FML set has not got enough aged ferrets to be representative of the old
end of the curve. However, the potential sample size (about 1,000 owners,
many with multiple ferrets - Tle has forty ), the reports of live
oldsters, and deaths at old ages indicate that the group may reflect the
true universe fairly well. Sample size is one cure of potential bias.
FML represents a ferret database the likes of which nobody has had access
to before - I merely would like to take advantage of it with its possible
limitations. I feel that data with recognized limitations is better than
none at all. I would caveat it responsibly. What we have now is relatively
unsubstantiated statements by people and in books, based on much smaller
experience pools, that must be taken at face value. Maybe I should move to
Missouri.

Note - the internet began as a government (DOD) tool which universities
embraced readily but not solely. I don't know that the FML has an age bias.
It is a valid hypothesis, but I have to accept the null hypothesis until it
is disproved. The rigor of science offers the best arena for hissy fights!

I thank Mason for the last chance I'll take to repeat my call for data and
explain why I feel it has value. See FML #1147 for a basic description. If
there is no general interest - so be it. If there is, I will be glad to
discuss limitations and other details. Now let me pull my tongue from my
cheek.
