I would suggest giving your ferret a few weeks to recuperate, then getting a
second opinion from another vet.  One of our ferrets had a right-side
adrenalectomy at about age 3, made a complete recovery, and lived to be 9
years old with no recurrence of adrenal problems.  This surgery is difficult
(our vet looked as if he had been run over by a train when he finished) but
certainly not impossible.
 
Where do you live?  Perhaps someone on the list can recommend a vet who will
be able to do the surgery for you.
