How some of our ferrets through the years got their names:

Smash was for a pretty obvious reason.

Haleakala got all excited when Steve and I were chatting about the mountain
of the same name and just plain seemed to like the word; since she was
rather volcanic it stuck.

Fritter's belly smelled just like corn fritters.

Meltdown was from an area near Two MIle Island and went wild over
cheeseburgers on the way home; we didn't know that she'd later melt down
everyone's hearts.

Ruffle was clinically retarded and the only sounds she likes at all at
first were "Rrrrr", "Fff" and "Llll" so we sorted through words with HER
acceptable sounds.

Warp is fast.

Glueball is a clingy ferret who kisses non-stop.

Scooter has a mangled paw. We SHOULD have named him "Scooper" for the way
he uses it but we weren't quick enough.

Jumpstart was gotten for Meltdown to observe when we were trying to get her
past yet another health crisis during her long bout with cardiomyopathy.

Meeteetse smiles like one of the kits at the Sybille center.

(One of these centuries we'd like to live in a place where we could ALSO
have a Beagle named Claxon, and a Bloodhound named Ruttle. There are other
critters we adore, too, but Steve's allergic to cats, we're both allergic
to birds, and what are the chances we could manage to afford a place where
we could have any ungulates or camelids, let alone some of the wild
critters I'd love to once again work with? When retirement age comes,
though, do expect us to add a couple of dogs if we all still know each
other then.)
