Pennsylvania:

Call the township mayor and township manager. Give them and any township
board members a copy of the Compendium of Animal Rabies Control from
http://www.avma.org. Also give them a copy of information from your state
public health vet and whichever place gives PA permits (if there are PA
permits). Unless your state public health vet has changed this year he is

You will want to call BOTH 1-800-FERRET1, and 1-888-FERRET1. One is for
Path Valley Farms which will be likely to know about the PA bureaucrats who
can be useful for you and who issues the permits if not in your records.
The other is for the AFA. You can also reach the AFA at [log in to unmask] .

You might have to use a lawyer if they get crazy. In that case there
is an NJ lawyer with a wide range of materials who might be willing to
professionally share. In that case it would be worth asking.

Here is where you will find a CDC publication which also shows how
safe ferrets are:
http://www.cdc.gov/epo/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/00056176.htm which
should also go to all the influential people.

You HAVE to have these pieces of information to back you up; they show that
the people who actually KNOW this subject matter consider ferrets safe.

Keep extra copies of all the documents in your own files!!!!!!!!!! Don't
ever, ever forget to do that!!!!!!

Meanwhile, also get the last copy of the shelter list so that if the
ferrets have to be somewhere temporarily for their safety you'll have a
safehouse.

If you find out specifically WHY they object they let us all know that and
we can let you know where to get information.

Anyone in PA have collections of the info she'll need? Anyone there with a
ferret friendly lawyer?

Sukie
