I am a canvasser in the Canadian federal governement employees United Way
fundraising campaign.  You have the option to donate money to any
recognized charitable organizations in Canada (i.e. an organization which
is so qualified within the meaning of the Income Tax Act of Canada &
therefore has an Income Tax no.  and can emit a receipt for your donations
for income tax deduction purposes).
 
Therefore, you can donate money to the Humane Society or SPCA and some
ferret associations and shelters.  I believe the following ferret groups
have the status of charitable organizations: Ferret Information Rescue
Shelter and Trust Society a.k.a.  FIRST (Ferret) Society in British
Columbia, Alberta Ferret Society, The Ferret Aid Society in Ontario was
planning to register and Furet mon ami in Quebec is registered although I
am not sure if it was disolved or not.  I am planning to call those groups
to find out their registration no.  Addresses of those groups are on:
