I've noticed an awful lot of posts about biting ferrets (and people biting
ferrets). I'm not sure about others who raise ferrets, but I usually don't
let the biting bother me much. I don't encourage it of course and no rough
play. All of the suggestions I've heard will work, but if the biting is
being done by a youngster - age will cure it most of the time. Remember to
be gentle and loving - the age from six weeks to about six months is the
worst. After that they sweeten with time. I had a really bad little girl
this year. She gave body piercing a whole new agenda. I will admit I
thought about removing her from the gene pool permanently. But I just kept
picking her up, holding and loving her. We used Bitter Apple, blowing in
her face, suddenly yelling when she bit hard, etc. She is about six month
now and I've noticed she is behaving in a much more civilized manner. She
still grabs my nand, but usually does not break the skin. She just wants to
be held more and if I pick her up she lets go and becomes more "normal". So
here's to the aging of the ferret babies - may they sweeten like fine wines,
to be savored a long time.
