Switch to tile or linoleum.  Or try letting your ferret out for a few hours
just before you go to bed.  If he runs around and plays furiously, there is
a good chance he will wear himself out anf be ready to sleep when you are.
It sounds like he may be bored.  (Although I do know some who do it for pure
meanness :0).
