On July 25, 1998, a ferret veterinary symposium will take place, sponsored
by the AFA and Merical, and held in conjunction with the American Veterinary
Medicine Association convention.  Here's some basic information for you and
to give to your veterinarians.  Sometimes the latest news about techniques
and treatments is presented for the first time at this conference, and vets
learn a lot just talking to each other.  It's well worth it.
 
As per Sally Heber, AFA President, non-veterinarians can attend at the
technician price but please be forewarned that material presented is on a
level for veterinarians.

Judith Bell, DVM, PhD, MS - Former chief veterinarian for the world's largest
ferret breeding facility; author of many books and peer reviewed studies on
ferrets.
 
Susan Erdman, DVM - Division of Comparitive Medicine, Massachusetts Institute
of Technology; Clinical and laboratory researcher at MIT specializing in the
etiologies of ferret diseases.
 
Robert F. Hoyt, Jr., DVM, MS, Dipl. ACLAM - Chief, Laboratory of Animal
Medicine and Surgery, National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, National
Institutes of Health.
 
Deborah Kemmerer, DVM - West End Animal Hospital; Frequent lecturer on
ferrets, experienced practitioner in ferret medicine.
 
Charles Weiss, DVM - Potomac Animal Hospital; Editor and author of ferret
articles; experienced practitioner who is currently conducting trials in
ferrets.
 
Thomas Willard, PhD - Carnivore nutrition specialist, President and CEO of
Performance Foods, Inc., Producer of Totally FerretTM foods.
 
Bruce Williams, DVM, Dipl. ACVP - Former head of the veterinary pathology
fellowship program at the Armed Services Institute; lecturer and author of
numerous scientific articles on ferrets.
