This morning, I was doing the crossword puzzle in my local paper, the
Tallahassee (Florida) Democrat and came upon a clue that said "some
apartment pets".  The first letter was an "f" and the next to last was a
"t".  I held my breath and worked around it.  Lo and behold, the answer was
FERRETS!!  This is the first time I've seen the domestic ferret recognized
in a crossword puzzle.  Maybe we are making some progress.
