[log in to unmask][log in to unmask] 95girls. They were there
b/c their owners were moving, and they had yucky names. I renamed them
Fleurette (french for little flower) and Lucy. They are 2 yrs and 3 yrs,
although I'm not sure which is which. [...]47_8Aug199518:06:[log in to unmask] 9508 7949 17 7_Couches8_Greg [log in to unmask], 8 Aug 1995 19:41:22 -0500470_- Hello, Stinky and I are new to the FML. Stinky is a 3.5 year old silver mitt
female who loves crawling into the couch. I wouldn't mind except she scratches
when she gets in there and I am afraid somebody will sit on her. I've taken
the legs of the couch so it sits on the floor, but for the past few years
she just scratches at pillows until she has enough room to get in. I've even
tried a blanket once or twice but she just claws that to pieces. [...]36_8Aug199519:41:[log in to unmask] 9508 7967 60 10_Tribrissen14_Bruce [log in to unmask], 8 Aug 1995 18:06:42 -0700600_- To the FML -

I have watched the recent debate on the merits of the drug Tribrissen
(the generic name for a combination of trimethoprim and sulfadiazine, both
sulfa drugs), culminating with BIG's message of yesterday and the apparent
unsubscription of four FMLers.

Truly, I'm not sure what all of the fuss is about. Hopefully my
comments may put this issue to rest without any more hullaballoo. I have
already spoken to Starla Dill, the ferret's owner, and Carla Almaraz, who
acted as intermediary on this issue, so I don't think they would mind my
comments. [...]43_8Aug199518:06:[log in to unmask] 9508 8028 23 18_HSUS file is here!27_Pam Grant and STAR* [log in to unmask], 8 Aug 1995 21:58:15 -0400566_- Just a quick note everyone. I picked up the HSUS file of "ferret bites"
today at the post office. I have only scanned it, but it is full of repeat
articles (or I was sent duplicates) and the infamous Constantine/Keiser - CA
report is indeed among them.

Most articles are from the late 80's, the most recent was 1991 (this was
only a quick scan - I will spend the rest of the week processing this
information and deliver FACTS). the Jennifer Au incident is among them -
and I know that her ferret never bit the kid, so there [...]38_8Aug199521:58:[log in to unmask] 9508 8052 24 26_Dr. Williams--- Tiki again9_Jen [log in to unmask], 8 Aug 1995 22:53:36 -0400541_- I didn't think it was the fleas. sounded a bit suspicious to me :)

ok -- here's the story-- I just got off the phone with Jen & She says that
Tiki is hard from the penile sheath to the anus-- sort of a hard knot shaped
like a finger. He now has begun to squirm if the area is examined and the
hard mass seems to have gotten larger. He appears to have difficulty in going
to the bathroom, & when he is successful, his bowel movements are thinner &
less than usual, although his appetite is normal and [...]34_8Aug199522:53:[log in to unmask] 9508 8077 22 50_Re: ferret show, rabies vacc., litter box tie-down15_Valerie [log in to unmask], 8 Aug 1995 23:40:29 -0400550_- RE: ferret show
congradulations on doing so well in your (actually your ferrets') first
show. I do not know any thing about showing ferrets, but I am glad you did
so well. By the way, do your ferrets get along with your rats? Or are the
rats always in a cage?

Hello all,
Well Weehawk and Silk both had bad reactions to their fervac-d vaccinations
last week...both were vomiting and had blood for diarhea for about 1 hr.
after the injection, even with the epinephrine (sp). and then I had to feed
weehawk the gruel/ensure mush for two days before he really started to eat
solid food again. I am confused/curious as to what caused the reaction and
was wondering if any of the doctors have any idea? Weehawk is a 1yr and a
little, this was his first annual shot (since his kit series) and Silk
received a distemper shot in Nov. when she was given to the Bossarts
shelter, neither of them had reacted adversly before. The vet had not used
any fervac-d from the package, I have the series number at home, will post
it to the list tomorrow, so she was worried that that batch was mixed up
wrong or something, is this possible? Or is it just that my ferrets hadn't
had a chance to develop a reaction yet? Joan Bossart from the shelter said
there was a good chance that they could react even worse if they are
vaccinated again in the future, possibly even die, so I would really like to
know what other people have done with ferrets who reacted. Are they
guarenteed to always react now?
They both were fine for about 20 min. and then Silk started pucking all
over and her feet got cold and she then started having diarhea which quickly
turned to liquid, mostly bloody. Weehawk followed suit about 10 min.
later. The really sad/sweet thing is that both of them refused to throw up
or go in the towel I was holding them in, but would struggle until I let
them go to a corner, where they would do their stuff, so we put paper down
there, and kept changing it every minute, but they were so neat even at a
time like that! They could have done it all over me, I didn't care, I just
wanted them to stop, but no! They wanted that corner. It was really scary,
and the ramifications from it are still hitting me, without the Bossarts I
could still have lost weehawk, cause the vet just said keep them warm and
give them lots of water, so it was only the shelters recipe of warm gruel
that got him through the shock and stress. Any advice, similar stories,
guesses to what might happen in the future would be much appreciated. I am
starting to feel as if poor Weehawk is one of the worlds most unlucky
ferrets, he is the one who is also partially whole, and a ferret familiar
surgeon tried for an hour to find the offending testical and couldn't so if
he hadn't had the reaction we would be on ovaban as we speak....The poor guy
has had a rough first year. Also please please stay at your vets after any
vaccination, I had no clue anything bad was going to happen but stayed
solely because of warnings I had read in here, and it probably saved both of
my ferrets lives!!!!!!!!!
ThanksFML!!!!!!!!!!
private email on other reaction ferrets more than welcome!
