Dr. Williams: I received a call on the Ferret Hotline in MA from a
concerned ferret owner who is concerned about her ferret.

She got this ferret about 1 1/2 years ago from a pet store. He is a MF
ferret. About a year ago, she got another ferret from a Long Island pet
store unknown where this ferret came from. Just after she brought home 2nd
ferret the first one has had since then about 4 - 5 episodes with the
following symptoms:

Listlessness, stops eating, loose stools, this each time lasts several days.
His vet has been treating him with amoxicillian (sp). This last time, he
seemed to have more of an intestinal bug, he vomited. Owner said he sounded
like he had a furball. Also, his skin turned bright pink, she noticed it
around the ears, nose and paws. Skin was hot to the touch and lasted 24
hours.

The second ferret has had no symptoms. They both eat IAMS kitten food.
Would appreciate your thoughts on this.
