FERRET PROOFING UNDER THE DOOR

 I'm seriously thinking of pulling up all the carpeting in the living section
of my house.  I do have nice hardwood floors in my 35 year old house and it
would be a nice change.  The carpet is o-l-d and out of date, not to mention
the stains from spilled foods and drinks, cat accidents, and most noticeable
of all, where ferrets and cats have tried to dig under the door (yes, cats do
this too!).
 
 Well, in the meantime, to protect what is left of the carpet and to make
sure I don't step on any tacking strips where one room joins the other, we
came up with the following:
 
 Take a piece of scrap vinyl flooring and cut a rectangle the width of your
hallway, or several inches wider than your door frame.  I recommend it to be
at least 1 1/2 feet to 2 feet in length the other direction.
 
 Trim out the center sides to fit the door frame.
 
 This allows the vinyl to cover the carpeting without being pulled out by
active animals, and the door operates freely.  Pick a color that blends with
your decor, or get the clear carpet runners from the hardware store.  Easy
clean-up for behind-the-door poops too! *
