Kevin,
        My two females had quite stiff hair like yours.  After reading
a ferret FAQ about a year ago we changed there diet form the basic
Purina Cat Chow to Iams Kitten food.  Although it significantly more
expensive what was more or less negated by the fact they seemed eat less
because they where getting a better quality food and more protein in there
diet.
        Within a few weeks I noticed how there hiar had become more silky
soft and just seemed generally healthier.  There is some caution about
given Iams Kitten food to older ferrets, past 4 or 5 if I remember the FAQ.
 
        All-in-all the results where very good.
