About the diversification of dogs versus ferrets.
 
Dogs were bred to different body types by humans for specific jobs.  Big
dogs for fighting big animals.  Little dogs to look cute.  Weiner dogs
(dacshunds) to compete with ferrets for rabbit hunting.
 
Ferrets have only been used as mousers, ratters and hunting.  No
particular need to breed for shape has ever been done by man so we don't
have different breeds.
 
Doesn't have anything to do with how long they were domesticated.
 
Not really meaning to be a know it all....
