If a person is not a breeder they are only $10 per year and much of
that goes into helping finance work to preserve native species. The
department also speaks in the defense of those who have permits if
localities mistakenly think that domestic ferrets are wild or unsafe,
and I have seen court cases against ferret people completely dropped by
towns once they knew the state would be saying their local "experts"
were wrong.
