Hi Ann,
I have found the best way to find out if ferrets are legal to own is
to go local. Ferret ownership may be legal in a state, but not in a
county, city, town, etc. When we moved from IL to WI, we were ready to
sign on the dotted line on a home in Cambridge proper. I mentioned to
our realtor that I ran a ferret shelter and were ferrets legal to own
in Cambridge, WI. She basically blew it off and didn't check with
officials. I did and found to my dismay that there was a city ordinance
against the ownership of ferrets!! Barry and I were back in the hunt
for a place to hang our hammocks! We found a perfect spot for us -- a
small farmette 4 miles south of Cambridge. We have been here for 17
glorious years! I love the country and wouldn't trade our home for
the world and I don't think the ferrets would either!
I would think a good place to start in finding the information would
be a search on the city's website for animal ordinances. Good luck!
Ferret hugs,
Kathy
