About three weeks ago, I rescued two little girls from the jail
conditions of the local county pound. They were in a bed sheet wet and
soiled with their body waste. Upon finding out I was a shelter, they
turned them over to me right away. One of the kids, Martina, 8 years
old, had a very large lump under the right side of the jaw. The second
one, Cinnamon, 7 years old, was bald from shoulders down. She was put
on antibiotics and silver oxide right away and both on prednisone.
Cinnamon will get a lupron shot next week.

They started a much better life the next day and after 3 days were
running around. Both gained weight. Martina's favorite occupation was
riding in my left pocket.

Thursday morning, I opened the cage to put Martina in my pocket, but
she was not waiting for me like she normally would. She was always at
the cage door pressing her nose between the wires watching my every
move. This time, she was laying over her food bowl still. She had left
me behind some time during the night. She never said a thing and just
went to sleep right where she was.

I only had Martina for a little while, but now she is gone and I will
miss her. I have always said to my vet that if I do not cry when one of
my little ones pass on, I will quit and close the shelter. I am crying
now for Martina.

Cinnamon is getting along better each day with the rest of the crew.
BTW, she loves to ride in my left pocket and takes napes there often.
