A New Star shines in the heavens.

It is with sadness and gratitude I relay we have another small soul
who has winged her way to rainbow Bridge. Emily FerretWise left in
the night 2/23 for that special place where ferrets go to await their
humans.

Emily was one of 11 ferrets who entered our shelter through a breeder
rescue in 2000. Her date of birth was 5-1-2000. Emily's group arrived
malnourished and infected with coccidia. She and the rest were nursed
and spayed or neutered and placed in homes ( except for brother Nestle
who liked flesh too much). Eventually Emily was admitted back into
hospice care when her adopting parent went to Iraq. She was elderly and
receiving lupron & melatonin by the time he returned so Emily - who had
subsequently lost her cagemates to old age- stayed on under the loving
care of hospice parents Cindy & Randy.

Emily had recently slowed down in spite of her regular vet care,
melatonin implants and lupron monthly. Several diagnostics revealed a
cancer or lymphoma though a specific site was not located.

Emily tonight has left our earth to rejoin her playmates that had left
beforehand. She had seen the vet on 2/23 and was comfortable but before
the next day arrived she had departed.

Thank you to the Secret Santa's that sent Emily wonderful gifts last
Christmas. You gave her joy that I am sure she carrioes with her.

Most of all I want to thank Randy & Cindy for their dedicated
attention, love and care for Emily since her arrival 7/28/2004. They
gave her the highest quality of life- as they did for Dargo, BooBoo
and Casper all departed.

A shelter cannot express how important it is to have folks like them
caring for the older kids. Both these hospice folks have earned our
love and respect for the many hours they have dedicated to our furry
charges.

Emily was cared for in hospice care for 1,251 days. along with daily
care & nutrition her shelter meds included:

Melatonin implants ( every 3 mos) started 4/2005

She started lupron therapy ( every month) on 6/2005

Our hospice folks were diligent in providing Emily with her vet visits
regularly.

We miss you Miss Emily! Your dark coat and Bandit mask and your
youthful precociousness will be missed. You were the perfect elder gal
never showing attitude to your hospice family. May you find renewed
vigor and watch over all of us until we meet again.
