There has been much on the FML lately about ferret food, so I have
finally broken down and made this list! I am simply sharing with you
what is on the label. This was a donation to the shelter benefit dinner
that did not arrive until after the Toronto Symposium. So, I have 12 5
pound bags of Hartz Bonanza Ferret Gourmet Diet. It is 30% protein
(min), 10% fat (min), 5% fiber (max) and 11% moisture (max).
Ingredients: kibbled corn, fish meal, poultry meal, soy flour, spray
dried animal blood, feeding oat meal, wheat middlings, cane molasses,
ground corn, dried plain beet pulp, pork animal fat (preserved with
BHA/BHT), raisins, ground wheat, vegetable oil (preserved with BHA/BHT),
soybean meal, ground oat groats, soybean oil, salt, corn gluten meal,
propionic acid ( a preservative), yucca schidigera extract, dicalcium
phosphate, brewers dried yeast, dried chicken egg product, I-lysine,
potassium chloride, di-methionine, citric acid, dried lactobacillus
acidophilus fermentation extract, dried aspergillis oryzae fermentation
extract, dried bacillus subtilis fermentation extract, vitamin A
supplement, vitamin D3 supplement, vitamin E supplement, ascorbic acid,
biotin, calcium pantothenate, choline chloride, calcium iodate, cobalt
carbonate, cobalt sulfate, folic acid, menadione sodium bisulfate
complex, menadione dimethylpyrimidinol bisulfite, niacin supplement,
pyridoxine hydrochloride, riboflavin, thiamine mononitrate, Vitamine
B12 supplement, copper sulfate, ethylenediamine dihydriodide, ferrous
sulfate, magnesium oxide, manganese sulfate, sodium selenite, zinc
sulfate, natural and artificial flavor, color added (yellow #5,
yellow #6, red #3, red #40, blue #1, titanium dioxide).
Now you know exactly why I have procrastinated writing this! If someone
wants to address this with Hartz, go for it. I do not have the time
right now.

It's amazing how much can be accomplished if nobody cares who gets the
