how many of you, had a couple of standard pets such as dogs or cats
as children?

Growing up I had a Miniature Poodle named Bridgette.  We also had rabbits
(HB and CB), fish, and turtles.

- how many of you had close  contact with more unusual species of
animals as children?

Later in life we had a pet skunk.  When I was pregnant with my first son,
the skunk use to take afternoon naps with me.  I think we got the skunk
when I was about 18, and had her until I was close to 27 anyway.  She
was cool.

It was not until I got married, I acquired my zoo.
