I rescued (took in) a six year old female ferret a couple days ago. For
the past four years she has lived, through no choice of her own, in a
small house with heavy cigarette smoke. The cage was the filthiest I've
ever seen. And the owner wondered why his ferrets didn't live too long.
Oh, yes, she had a thinning tail, too. We'll see about that.
Now the cage is cleaned and outside for the sun to destroy the remaining
tar and nicotine. It really is a large rabbit cage.I'm not going to
use it. Her ear mite infestation is taken care of, but what about her
nicotine habit? I took her out of there, gave her fresh air, clean
water, a bath with three sudsings, and clean soft hammies. But is she
getting withdrawals? She does get along with four other new ones but
doesn't sleep with them. When I take her out she shakes more that usual.
Should I get her some Nicorette, steep some tobacco and put it in her
water, or will this pass without harm in a few days?
