Sorry i haven't updated on Rufus and Riker in while!
Rufus still isn't doing great after his surgery. He continues to go back
and forth to the vets. We thought we were going to lose him the other
night, he didn't want to move at all. He just lay there, so weak. He's
still not out of the woods but he's now at camp Olympia, getting loads of
loving and 'round the clock feedings. Please continue to keep this
little one in your thoughts.
Riker on the other hand has been our MIRACLE boy! Only days after his
surgery he was up and ready for play. This kid, who lay near death in my
arms on Christmas eve was playful, eating on his own and having normal
poops.
I'm not sure if i ever told you of how Riker got his name? It seems so
fitting. Way back in April when we did the Easter rescue, we had so many
ferrets we couldn't come up with names for them all (MUCH like the Paris
rescue) so they were all numbered. One by one, the numbers turned into
names, all but #1. We would hear the volunteers talking to #1 or
referring to #1 or calling #1 and kissing #1 and boy, was #1 ever BOSSY!
One day, Paige came in (a TRUE Star Treck fan) and said to me, "Geez,
#1 sure needs a name. We're all calling him #1 all the time, and captain
(whatever his name is) always calls his first mate #1 and his name is
Riker" so, #1 became Riker.
Since then, Riker's nik name has ALWAYS been #1 and he's always been #1
in our hearts.
I have some Wonderful news to share about our #1 kid. At our New Year's
Day adopt-a-thon, a lovely couple fell in love with Riker and today, our
first mate went into a forever home. Blessings to all of you who kept
him in your prayers and thoughts over Christmas. Your caring and well
wishes helped for him.
