The Pensacola Newsl recently ran a story stating that new laws are in
effect for the ferrets (as well as other pets).  The full story can be

This is the part that applies to ferret owners in Florida:
 
Pet owners, too, now get a break from an onerous duty and expense.
Rabies vaccinations no longer will be required annually, but rather
can follow certified immunity durations, typically three years.
 
The law became effective today to accommodate county pet licensing
programs that run on the calendar year.  Rabies vaccination still is
required after dogs, cats and ferrets are 4 months old and again a year
later, but thereafter the less-frequent rules apply.
 
Kathleen Harper, a laboratory animal veterinarian at Florida State
University and secretary of the Tallahassee-based Ochlockonee River
chapter of the Kennel Club of Florida, said the new rules simplify
confusing timetables. ...
