Something needs to be done about the lack of animal abuse laws in this
country...

Charges dropped in ferret death

A judge has dismissed an animal abuse charge against a traveler from New
York who allegedly beat a ferret and flushed it down a toilet at Lambert
Field last year. [Moderator's note: See FML issues 4057 and 4058 for
more info about the incident. I've removed a lot of the post below due
to copyright issues, but I think it makes sense in context. BIG]

St. Louis County Associate Circuit Judge Michael Burton threw out the
misdemeanor abuse case against Stefan Albrecht,37, of Yonkers. The
ruling -- dismissal for lack of evidence -- was made Monday after a
prosecutor made an opening statement in the case.

Authorities said the state lacked the body of the ferret or any physical
evidence to corroborate statements Albrecht allegedly made to airline
personnel at the time the ferret disappeared....
