Although I wasn't there, I am sure the cashier meant your fur kids.  At
our local Pet Supplies Plus, which is where we normally do our pet food
and supplies shopping, the cashiers call our fur kids 'children', and
really, that is just what they are.  I am sure you are right, you were
just preoccupied with other things and misunderstood what the cashier
was saying.  Hey, it happens to the best of us :-)
