The sedative given before the lethal injection serves to relax the little
one into a peaceful sleep so they do not feel the lethal injection (which
stings when injected) and gives us time to say our goodbyes while they zz
are sleeping.  Death can be frightening as the body starts shutting down.
Personally, I'd rather have the little one dreaming of raisins and
ferretone in the last moments of life.
