I have three fuzzies, all of whom are young and healthy. I have not yet
had to make some of the difficult decisions that others on this list have
been forced to make. This poem and ferret reply are for them.

The Gift

I brought you home, so sweet and small,
and gave you the greatest gift of all
The Gift of Love I gave to you.
Lots of food, and yummy treats too,
a bed and plenty of blankets for you
The Gift of Security I gave to you.
We danced, we dooked, we played a ton,
together we had so much fun
The Gift of Friendship I gave to you.
Years went by, they go so fast,
you were afraid my interest wouldn't last
The Gift of Time I gave to you.
We had some troubles over the years,
we went to vets and sent up prayers
The Gift of Health I gave to you.
Tougher battles we had to fight,
I picked you up and held you tight
The Gift of Comfort I gave to you.
In your eyes I see the hurt,
your little body so inert
The final gift so hard to give.
But because I love you so,
I have this final gift to bestow
This precious gift I give to you.
I hold you close as the vet comes near,
this one last gift for you my dear
The Gift of Life I give to you.
An eternal life where you can run and play,
and wait for me to join you one day
I give you the Rainbow Bridge.

Thank you from the Rainbow Bridge

I run and dance, I dook and play,
I am full of life today!
Happy and so carefree,
just like the fuzzie I used to be.
Energy to run, and appetite to eat
life is once again so sweet.
Friends I've met, both old and new,
I've told them all about life with you.
I know you miss me down below,
but I'm doing well you should know.
Someday you yourself will see,
and I can thank you for this gift you've given me.
