We got in a pair of ferrets that are in need of a home --not unusual, as we
are a shelter -- but these two are not a true pair.....

Melissa, age 6, is a cute little chocolate girl with a bit of rat tail.
She lost her cagemate to insulinoma and isn't sure she wants a new ferret
to share her cage. Dusty, age 5, is a pretty sable girl that is blind.
These ferrets were released to the shelter by their owner who was moving
to New Mexico.

These two little ones don't get along with each other -- and they miss
their former owner terribly. Dusty I believe doesn't get along with others
because of her infirmity. According to the former owner, Melissa slept
with her at night. They don't like it here at the shelter - while they are
still eating, its obvious to me that they aren't thriving. What I need is
for someone to open their doors and hearts to one or both of these little
girls.....yes, I have other shelter ferrets -- and yes, I have other
adoptables...but these two are in need of a permanent home more than the
others. I know that based on their age, this will probably be their last
home -- and it hurts me to know that their former owner kept the dogs(5)
and cats(4) that they owned and got rid of the ferrets......

Please consider an older kid for adoption - they may not be as cute as a
kit, or as active as a youngster, but they need attention and homes too.
Its heartbreaking sometimes for me to walk into the ferret room and see
so many oldtimers - Trella, Tigger, Emily, Bandit, PeeDee, Ben, Garrett,
Dusty, Melissa....and to know that I will be their last 'owner'. My
shelter is not the exception either - it doesn't matter where you are,
they most likely have a quite a few of these wonderful, special kids. For
some, their only fault is that they are over age 5 -- for others, they have
illnesses and conditions that are controlled with medication. Even if they
only have a year or two left, the joy that they will bring to your life is
more than worth it.

Thank you for thinking of a shelter ferret -- and thanks from the gang here
still hoping for a new home: Tigger, Trella, Emily, Silk, Soccer, Silver,
Shadow, PeeDee, Bandit, Melissa, Dusty, Pandora, Boscoe, Rikki, Ben,
Garrett, Kaya, George, Patty, Tobias and Chloe.
