Got a sneak peek at the latest issue of "Modern Ferret". Folks will want
to see the editorial to understand why this issue took longer. Their
distributor decided to go down to handling only its own in-house
publications. Given that it and Fancy Pubs are the only two houses which
supply pet stores that creates a real problem for Mary and Eric, as did
finding a new distributor. Mary and Eric run this on their own and have
for six years so they know how to enslave themselves to putting out a good
product; that's their norm. They are finding alternative ways to make some
extra cash --- I LOVE the cards and cute denim nap sack, and wish we had
wall room for the poster by Jen (our fellow FMLer and of Not Wild Just
Crazy Fame! Hi, Jen!) but since we don't we just might have to get one for
our vets. In addition, Mary and Eric state in the magazine that they are
willing to go back to working two jobs each (the magazine and an outside
job) if it comes down to that to stay competitive, and since they have done
that in the past their abilities on that score will be no surprise at all
to folks here.

Anyway, people asked so I figured I'd let you know now that I know.

There's a vet article you will REALLY want to see. Charlie Weiss did a
piece on cryosurgery -- very useful for helping your ferret with surgical
needs. (VERY USEFUL so show your vet!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Sam did an article on baby ferrets. You can see picies of them weekly from
newborn to looking almost ferrety in coats but with eyes still shut at four
weeks, to week five open eyes, and on right up to week 11. If Sam's name
sounds familiar she's an FML member, too! (Hi, Sam!)

Amy's got an article in there (Hi, Amy!) with absolutely PRECIOUS pictures
of her little one playing with ferrets, may favorite being on page 16.
Adorable!

Alicia has a piece on stress reduction and a way to achieve that. (Hi,
Alicia!)

You will also recognize other FML names in there. Surprise, surprise...

I can't stop laughing at some of the photos (You'll see what I mean.) on
pages 4,5,38, and 39.

Other articles (in case some may be helpful or interesting to you) include:
ferret sitters, another CA celebrity (actress Nikki Fritz) wanting to be
"outed" to help legalization there (Yes, opinions vary on whether this
makes the most sense or not. It's not my favorite approach, but I can see
their point and it is up to the person choosing to be covered rather than
to any of us. Hey, opinions vary -- no big shock for anyone -- so we just
all live with that.), giving baths, solving some gastrointestinal tract
medical mysteries (a new warning for those with pet fish, as well as an
interesting allergy situation involving bloody runs -- also one to be sure
to show your vet), and more.

I don't think we'll get a chance to get to the place locally which sells
"Ferrets" magazine for this issue, so I'd appreciate it if (in light of the
way we are all trying to be constructive rather than nasty about different
tastes in magazines or articles, and in doing so be most fair to other FML
members) if someone else would post what is present in there for all. I'll
most likely do "The American Ferret Report" when that comes in as usual.
It's a big world with room for all, no matter what one's individual
preferences are.
