Just a brief note in response to Lise's comment in yesterdays FML regarding her travels this Christmas. Firstly, thanks to Lise for volunteering to help transport ferrets who may be able to get to their new owners. This is exactly what FAA and the ferret world in general is about, and people do not have to arrange their transports through Ferrets Across America to get things arranged! :o) In a case such as Lises' - where she is travelling quite some distance, it may be possible for a ferret to get to his or her new owner quickly and easily without the Ferrets Across America system. Secondly, I did want to add that although Lise apparently sent an email here, it never arrived. Emails have been known to disappear into cyber-space and I guess that happened to this one. Every email is responded to ASAP (some emails which have contained flames have had to wait until I've been able to type coherently, though, and a continuation of flames will eventually be ignored) and all volunteers are responded to. With a currently high workload, some volunteers have not been entered yet into the Ferrets Across America database. Once they are entered into the database, the volunteer is contacted so they know that the form was received and that things are progressing. This is also the time that I may ask questions if some details were left out of the form. Because the system of State Co-ordinators is still exceedingly new, what exactly is needed of each Co-ordinator (and for them as well!) is still being ascertained. Once more details are known, a set of guidelines will be sent to the State Co-ordinators. *Several* people have volunteered to help co-ordinate in Illinois! In fact, more people have volunteered to co-ordinate in Illinois than transport! LOL Volunteers to co-ordinate are still needed for most States, also as many volunteers to help transport as possible. Please fill in the form at the bottom of this post if you think you can help. Volunteering does not mean that a transport will be going through, and it also doesn't mean that you have to drop everything if a transport comes through at the wrong time for you. It simply means that if a transport comes through your area, you will be emailed to see if you are able to assist. If you can't that time, no problem, there's always the chance of another transport coming through in the future. If anyone sends an email to FAA and does not receive a reply within 24 hours, please resend the message, it's highly possible that it didn't arrive. Thank you to all the people who have volunteered thus far, to those who are planning on volunteering, and to those who have already been involved in a transport. Even though I personally am new to Ferrets Across America, it has handled several transports in the past and hopefully there are several more in the future. Hopefully they'll all go as well as the one just finished! Sam Ferrets Across America need your help in getting ferrets from one home to another.
