hello again, i found out last night that this poor little ferret did not have rabies. however the vet looked at the bite wounds on his neck and came to the conclusion that either he was bit and his owner never took care of him (which explains the wound abscessing and hair falling out around it) and he snuck out of his home or was set free....or he was out in the wild for a while (vet figures at least a month) learned how to defend himself and got the abscessing bite wound while out there. i wanted them to quarantine this ferret and rehabilitate him but with the ferret acting in such a vicious way they were not willing to take the chance of anyone else getting mauled. i am very angry with the outcome of this whole situation. various people were called and they all said the same thing......euthanize and send to the lab. no one mention anything about an option to quarantine for 10 days. there was absolutely no option given. i wanted to save this ferret.....not kill him!!!! i don't even know if rehabilitation was possible with him because he was so extreme but i wanted to give him a chance. the people who trapped him tried to find the owners but no one in the area knew anything about him, therefore no vaccine history was known either. the vet said she thinks i am a hero for going thru all this to try to save a ferret........but i certainly don't feel like one....and if this is what it is like to be one, i don't want it.....if anything i feel like a god damned fool!!!!! but like i said before.....if it meant saving him, i would do it again........(maybe if i had saved him i would feel differently about this situation) thanks for listening, me [Posted in FML issue 2887]
