I wrote this email tonight to the webmaster at Petsmart.com...please visit the site & voice your opinions to [log in to unmask] in order to stop the misinformation given there. Amy & the kids (Miya, Nina, Jack, & Rascal) [log in to unmask] --------- To whom it may concern: You do not have a seperate catagory for ferrets. Ferrets should not be "hunked" together w/ small animals. For example, your "small & furry animals" section claims small animals do not need vaccinations: "Does my pet need vaccines? There are no vaccines that are routinely given to small and furry pets. Even though your fuzzy friend may not need vaccinations, he or she should still receive regular veterinary examinations to help detect parasites, diseases, and nutritional deficiencies and help you keep your pet healthy and happy." Ferrets need to be annually vaccinated for canine distemper & rabies! Also, you have information about bedding for small creatures. Ferrets should NEVER be kept in any kind of wood bedding, or dust causing litter: "What kind of litter should I use in the cage? There are many kinds of litter such as wood shavings, fresh clean straw, pellets, cob chips, shredded paper, etc. Choose a small mammal litter than will be safe, clean, and very easy to change. Dryer lint, leaves, bark dust, etc., are not appropriate for small and furry friends. Litter should be change very often, at least once a week for most pets. If many pets are housed together, more frequent changes may be needed." This is misinformation for would-be or new ferret owners. I suggest you take the photo off that list of a girl & a FERRET, because this list has NOTHING to do with proper ferret care. And PLEASE make a seperate catagory for ferrets. There are TONS of ferret products out there, & TONS of ferret owners, too. Just visit Petopia.com or FerretStore.com & you will see. I give my business to Petco because your retail stores don't carry enough ferret products. There is a thing called the Ferret Mailing List on the Internet that has over 3000 subscribers. That just goes to show just how "big" ferret ownership is becoming. I beg you, PLEASE update your information immediately for the sake of ferrets & their owners everywhere. Please get back to me as soon as possible regarding this email. This is a rather urgent matter that needs to be addressed. Thank you for your time. Amy McNamara [Posted in FML issue 2881]
