I've been in touch with a student named Elizabeth Ward who has taken in a ferret from Hurricane Floyd. Her name is Floyd Marie - she's a gorgeous young little girl, probably around 1 year old. There's a picture of her and a re-cap of the situation at: http://www.unc.edu/~pjdutche/floydmarie.html Anyway, Floyd Marie has a very badly broken leg that will never heal properly. Amputation may be necessary. However, the Vet School can perform a procedure called bone fusion that they feel would almost definitely work well in her case and let her keep the leg. They'll do it for half of their usual cost, since they've never done it in a ferret before, but that's still probably going to be around $700... more than Elizabeth can afford. It needs to be done by the first week in December, so that bone will still be alive, in order for it to work. Anyway, if anyone can donate any money, no matter how small the amount, towards the surgery (it can be given directly to the vet school), please contact Elizabeth Ward directly at: [log in to unmask] or (919) 544-6414 Best wishes to everyone! -Pam S.
