I had responded to Liv privately as the info I had for her was something I posted on the list in the not too distant past, but since I've seen further comments and questions since then, I thought I'd cut and paste this for everyone to see: ---- If by magnetic snaps you mean the ones that have a little metal plate on the door and a small magnet that mounts on the cabinet case, they probably will make little difference. What we use are child safety locks called Tot-Loks. They are also magnetically based locks, but they are *very* strong and require a "key" to release them. You will *not* be able to release them without the key or an otherwise VERY strong magnet. The Tot-Loks have recently been purchased from the Rev-A-Shelf company by the Safety 1st company. Some folks have seen these locks in home improvement stores or Wal-Mart stores. Locally I find them at Babies 'R' Us stores. They may also be in Toys 'R' Us. The neat thing is that though the locks are permanent installations, they can be disabled if you don't want to use them by simply flipping a switch on the lock before you let the cabinet door close. To see a picture of the lock, try this website (also the cheapest online source I had found when I looked a few months ago): http://www.babyblockers.com/catalog/latch.htm#2005 or http://wmonline.wal-mart.com/cgi-bin/vstore/wm/wmonline.exe?U+GN+BIGIMG: 656398122444+MCAT:12576+G:0.0.0.000 I notice that the Wal-Mart site lists at least three products in their online store but only shows the extra key actually available for purchase. Home Depot carries Safety 1st products, but last time I looked didn't have these locks (though this is the first place I bought them several years ago). ---- I looked up my receipt from June and found that I paid: $12.99 for a package of four locks with no key $11.99 for a package of two locks with one key That'll show you how retentive I am... looked up the date of purchase on the computer and knew where to go to immediately pull the receipt! I really MUST get a life... Debra in Fort Worth [Posted in FML issue 2839]
