Hello all, Jsut wanted to let everyone know what a great feeling it is to be sharing info and advice and stories with other ferret loving people again...,it really has been tooo long without a computer! I've been kinda lurking for awhile..... Ralph (named in memory of Eric and Mary's Ralph....we got him the same day we got the issue of Modern Ferret with the sad news in it) has, in a true Ralph form, discovered a new toy that is cheap and safe....Leggo's! They are hard plastic, and he loves chasing the train I built him around the room. The girls and Nick like stealing all the pieces they can...on Distemper and rabies shots, I work for an exotics' vet here in Boston, and our policy is to NEVER give both vaccs on the same day, and we always pretreat with benadryl injections. I believe the Fort Dodge vaccine is Galaxy-D and was used widely before the FDA approval on Fervac, but that too had caused some reactions. In some states (mine included), vet's hands are a bit tied to give only Fervac now due to FDA rules...please have your vet report any reactions to theFDA so studies can be started to find out the causes for these reactions...also it may help to suggest to your vet to pre-calculate emergency drug dosages based on your ferrets wgt before giving the shots, and always wait at least a half hour at the vets in case a reaction should occur. Our first ferret, Figrowan, was a rescue from Rowan College that was found roaming the dorm halls after school let out for the summer.....I think it's a bit much for anyone to balance school with animal care of any kind.... Dooks and bellyrubs... Michele and the furry seven...... (Ralphie says Leggo MY LEGGOS!) [Posted in FML issue 2775]
