Hi ferret lovers: I am quite upset right now. I am a ferrret lover and have 2 of my own precious babies. I am a single struggling mother of two human children and find it hard to make ends meet, (like so many other people, Im sure). Anyway my neighbors know my love for animals, so when someone found a baby ferret (about 4 months old) in their yard, guess who they called. I brought this sweet little female home with me to see if I could find a home for her. She had a very strong oder, not like my other ferrets, even after bathing. I have had her for a month now without any luck finding her a home. We are falling in love with her, even though I cannot afford another ferret. One day, I was playing with her, scratching her belly, she likes this alot, and I noticed she doesnt have a scar from spaying. Then I looked at her tattooed ear. She only has ONE dot, not two. She was never spayed. I called the vet and he wants 95 dollars for this procedure. This is out of the question, not only will I have the extra expence of shots (which I was considering to take on) but this extra spay money will take my family to the poor house. My question is "would anyone like to adopt this little sweet heart." She is about 5 month old. She is not fully grown and she has the sweetest dispositoion of all my ferrets. She is a lover for sure. In all honesty, I cant give her a home to ordinary people who might promise to spay her, knowing the danger that she would die, if they didnt. I have to find someone on this list to take her or put her in a shelter. I live in Cape May NJ area and dont even know where there is a shelter close to me. My family is upset that I am writing this but reality is I just dont have $100 dollars to fix her. I believe she is marcial farms because of the one tattoo, how could they have missed her like this. Is this a common thing for them to miss spaying one of the young? I would be glad to give her away to someone here who will be willing to take on the responsibility of having her spayed. The pet store in my area , we only have one who sells ferrets, refuses to think that they are responsible for selling this little one to someone local. ALSO, important question, how long before she might go into heat. I couldnt stand if anything happened to her. In the last month, we have fallen for her. [Posted in FML issue 2787]
