>From: Sam <[log in to unmask]> >Subject: Permanent shelter vs personals >What is the difference between a personal ferret and a permanent shelter? >Surely a permanent shelter becomes a personal once it's determined that >they're... well... permanent? Well. You have asked the same thing we always have. To us there is no such thing as a permanent resident of our shelter. I we can place a ferret it comes from our shelter. If we can not place that ferret outside of our home we place it into our home to us. >From: Jacky Adams <[log in to unmask]> >Subject: Disabled people keeping Fuzzies. >I would like to hear from anybody who is disabled and keeps ferrets. Depends upon the disabilty. Diane is disabled. We have a few ferrets so in her case at least it works. A ferret should be little different from cats, dogs or small mammals I'd imagine. >From: Jerry Jackowski <[log in to unmask]> >Subject: Re: Petco I'm not convinced that that is actually the first time a pet store chain has sponsored a portion of a ferret show but I can't recall a specific instance beyond buying advertising. Yes, the sponsors get advertising. But it is also a way for them to support the community that supports them. Ferret owners buy suppleis from PetCo, like it or not it will happen. So now they can give back to ferret owners in return. Sponsoring companies do not get any money from ferret shows beyond what they get from the advertising. There is nothing wrong with getting any corporation or individual that makes a donation to a ferret club by sponsoring in any manner a ferret show. Your points are all valid Jerry... >From: Sandi Ackerman <[log in to unmask]> >Subject: Re: Petco I strongly disagree. > Take their brochures into your stores. Take their animals > in and find homes for them...your sales will soar! And more power to them! There is such as thing as both sides winning. Petco sells more ferret and cat food. More homeless ferrets get homes. GREAT! >Petco will always sell ferrets thanks to the ferret people who take >their money. Oops. Backwards. Petco will sell ferrets because people give them their money. By acknowledging that ferret shelters are on par with dog and cat rescues perhaps instead they will phase out the ferret sales like they don't sell dogs and cats. As far as encouraging sales. Shows tend to encourage shelter placements and private breeder sales. Those are the ones at the shows with ferrets to place. Those watching the results will see a definite tendancy for private bred ferrets to win more. Shelters get lots of visibilty. While pet stores usually make it known at shows that they stock supplies. >From: Jannine Healy <[log in to unmask]> >Subject: saddened >Also, I live in New Zealand and there are a FEW ferret associations here. >What saddens me is that they are all backstabbing and putting each other >down, it is really pathetic. You could be writing about the US associations as well. Heck over here we get false criminal reports filed when someone is seen as a rival. >From: petersen <[log in to unmask]> >Subject: Ferret in Heat It sometimes takes more than one shot. And I am sort of scared to mention it but you can actually induce the ovulation with a ... well ... "substitute". It its the penetration that causes the ovulation and you can do that with something other than a male ferret's member. But you really have to be very careful. This is not a recommended method in nearly all cases as it is not so easy to be at all successful but desperate times can call for desperate measures. -bill -- bill and diane killian zen and the art of ferrets http://www.zenferret.com/ mailto:[log in to unmask] [Posted in FML issue 2675]
