Stephanie, I can answer this question since I have first hand knowledge..... I recently lost my home and was forced to rent a house. Long story, but will explain if you feel the need. The property owner was adamant about no pets. I perused the lease and it says "NO DOGS OR CATS". So trying to be honest, I asked about ferrets. I lied out my wazoo, saying they were in cages. Not really a lie since they do eat/sleep/potty there <G>. After a brief conversation in which I removed my least odiferous and sweetest dispositioned baby from my shirt and allowed an introduction, he consented. When he asked how many, I replied "a few". Since then, He has called and asked if he could bring his wife and kids since they are bugging him about a pet. Apparently the kids science teacher has a ferret in the classroom. I consented and when he saw my little business, his reaction was a bit nonplussed. After I warned them about the dangers of bare toes, I seated all four on the floor of my ferrets room, and loosed the "kids". All 18 of them! Soon everyone was laughing and whooping it up watching the kids and playing on the floor, playing tug-o-war over a hand towel, and generally being silly. About midway through the two hours they were here, He carefully stood up and crossed over the modified child gate to the ferrets room to come and talk to me. Well, I have an addendum clause added to my lease stating that ferrets are property owner approved now. And my landlord has greatly increased his knowledge base of ferrets and Is now the owner of two himself (or should I be honest and say owned by two?). This was merely my experience, so bear in mind that not all land owners are so open minded. Hope to hear you have found a place for you and the kid/s. Dave. [Posted in FML issue 2656]
