With the weather turning nice again, we will spending more time outside. Would like to take the ferrets out for some ferret playtime also. Does anyone know of a decent outside playpen for ferrets? Stopped by Eagle to see if I could find some viable ideas. Nothing really jumped out and grabbed me. My goal is to have a safe area that the ferrets can get some outside play time with sunlight and fresh air. Mobility and scalibility are both key factors. Looked at solid wood planks, but that creates more of a cave like area. Not much sun, little air circulation, not very mobile or scalable. Looked at chicken wire but the more I looked at it the easier I could see Nikoli climbing it. Then I thought well how about if I use a 1x1 or a 2x2 for the top of the frame, then put a tube of foamish material (pipe insulation wraps) on top. Seems almost viable. Nikoli would definately have to give it some thought. Awkwardly mobile, somewhat scalable. Maybe something like the plastic fencing that road crews use - but then the ferrets could have it for a snack.......nah. Play pen. To easy to climb up the mesh. Turned upside down it only serves to block out the sunlight. Good air circulation, but little sunlight. Nancy said that the PTB make a playpen that has a zipper top, but it also blocks out the sun. How about making a custom top of net-like material - good air circulation and reasonable sunlight. Very mobile, not scalable. Ed Lipinski previously stated that he used a planted stake with the ferrets' leashed to that. The ferrets are harenssed in figure-8 harnesses and clipped to the leash. Maximum sunlight exposure and air exposure. Seems to be reasonable, a few concerns about the cords attaching the ferrets to the stake. Images of strangulation come to mind. Probably something that could be worked out. Any ideas folks?
