In late December 1997, many tens of ferrets were found in open, uncovered snow-filled cages, being fed goat food and left without water with a person who knew nothing about them other than he wanted to breed them to make money. In early January 1998, those ferrets were forcibly removed from this man with several ferret owners and shelters grouping together to help these animals out. All the ferrets had had their teeth clipped, were starving, and several were frostbitten. None had been handled or vaccinated. Now, in early January 1999, the same person has started again. Having a group of ferrets being kept in the SAME conditions as earlier, all outside, in the snow storms of Ontario (which are particularly fierce this year) uncovered and hardly fed. They are being fed dog food, which is a slight improvement on the previous years fiasco. The SPCA refused to help in last years events, only sending a couple of volunteers along when it became obvious that the ferrets were going to be removed by the shelters. This time, the SPCA refuses to help once more.
