Well, some really good news today. Paul Feiner got back to his office this morning and saw Jane's letter. I thought she had spoken to him before, but I guess she said it was his office not him personally. He was out last week. At 9:10am he called her, very irate that all this had gone down and determined to set things right. Now some of you are thinking, it's for show. Not with this guy. Despite the fact that he is a politician, he is a genuinely nice guy. My mom says a nice guy like him has no place in politics. One of the really cool things he does is that he has a troubleshooting table (I forget what he calls it), nothing fancy, it's one of those little square card tables and he sets that up on Sundays with folding chairs at one of the area supermarkets (prime shopping time, lots of traffic), so that people can sit and talk with him about their concerns. He makes an effort to be accessable, and not just around campaigning time. I'm not going to detail all of the conversation they had (yet, more as things unfold...), but he is going to be a critical link in this! Before the day was out, Jane had recieved a letter of apology faxed to her from the police chief. (After all that happened, the department had never even apologized to her.) Another paper (Scarsdale) did a phone interview with her today. And she got a call from the author of the other article saying that can be reproduced in it's entirety, so I will write that up and it will be on the web page. (Go all the way down and click UPDATES for the new stuff.) The letter I mailed out to the police chief, town board and District Attorney is on the page. For those wondering, yes, please keep writing letters, and yes, please write even if you live far away, I want the people in the police dept to know what happened has stirred people across the world! Also Eric Shefferman asked me to write something for Modern Ferret on this, so keep an eye out for that! (Now that I've said it here I'm really committed, although many of you have known I probably should have been committed long ago. :) ) I'm sure I'm leaving out something, but it's well after midnight, so I'm just going to sign off and say thanks again, to all who have written, signed the guest book and worked behind the scenes on this!!
