The Fly (alias Tot, 'Teetse Tot, Teetse Fly, 'Teetse) got through her surgeries very well despite her tachy heart. We'll be calling later today to get a further update on her condition and she'll come home tomorrow. There was a large adrenal tumor on the left (most common) side, but the right was normal and that's after postponing the surgery for a year because of her heart and due to other possible causes of the repeated infections needing to be eliminated, and her fat to muscle ratio needing to be slowly and steadily improved. (You'd NEVER have believed before that this ferret is 6 years old and you sure wouldn't believe it now.) Other than the vaginal infections she had NO signs of adrenal growths. (Over the years we've also had two known post mortem to have completely asymptomatic adrenal growths -- I am wondering more and more if adrenal growths are common but if the symptomatic ones are the problems (like with slipped discs) and if one direction for questioning should be HOW common they are in general population (symptomatically and asymptomatically) and then if they are common WHAT triggers make them become symptomatic.) Anyway, she also had two asymptomatic pancreatic growths which came out with surrounding tissue while he was in there, the skin tumor came out well, and he checked her somewhat big spleen but it's been the norm for her for many years so it stayed since there was no reason to remove it. Steve and I are calmer now. Sukie [Posted in FML issue 2489]
