Ferrets get/lose their winter fur based on the photoperiod, i.e. the length
of daylight to which they are exposed, not temperature.
 
Compared to northern states, our days are a bit longer down here in the
winter.  For example, on the shortest day of the year sunset is around
5:30 p.m.  I couldn't say whether or not these longer days were enough
to trigger a shed in your ferrets.
