Imagine I lie tucked in my warm bed Listening to sounds in my head When of a sudden what did I see? The door opened without a key! Someone stepped in quietly Looking to find just what he'd see. His eyes did alight on me! Lying in my cage, sleepily. At first he walked around to look Then came back to my questing dook He reached toward my cage at first THEN came what was the worst. With strong hands he took my friend, All curled asleep until the end. He dealt my friend a mortal blow He whimpered as he died, so slow. Another blow to the head, Then my new-found friend was dead. Backing up to get away I didn't want to his prey! He reach for me, jumping a bit As in fear I tried to nip Growling madly, he held me tight As I fought with all my might. In the oven I was thrown, Where heat rose - I did moan Digging hard, trying to escape What I knew would be my fate Soon I began to pant and cry I know what it is to burn and die I was now far past thirst Blisters on my paws soon burst Our fate sealed, it was too late Our owner cried at our fate. The man who came tried to flee But Justice says "It's not to be!" He waits in jail to state his plea To say "It's just an animal, see?" People, think of my death and pain Pain so deep you'll go insane Fur singed and blisters covering flesh My whole body now a mess Flames flickering from a droopy tail From when my body finally failed Imagine my owner, a parent to me Arrived home and this to see One child lying in a pool of blood The other causing tears to flood Imagine this before letting him free Imagine dying the same way as me Imagine feeling your own flesh fry Imagine the knowledge you're about to die And lastly just imagine this Imagine as your child's cheek you kiss Imagine THEM sharing my fate. Lock this man up, close that gate. Sam [Posted in FML issue 2456]
