Dr. Wilkinson of the Warr Acres animal clinic in Okc... why he is best... 1) because he likes ferrets, and most importantly, likes my ferrets (even though they tend to be monsters) 2) Cares about the animals welfare first, and money second. 3) Will listen to what you want as far as treatments, how you want your animal to be put under during surgery, and what vacines you think are best. 4) Took my Shandy home with him after she was spayed because he didn't want to leave her at the office overnight. 5) asks me to bring them in for a visit and just to say hi, and not to wait until they need to be seen. 6) Will make financial arrangments under dire circumstances for the animals benefit. 7) The first vet I had who would talk to me on the phone about my ferrets, all the other hospitals and clinics made me talk to an uninformed receptionist. 8) and treats ferrets for the same price as cats, and doesn't overcharge with "exotic" prices. 9) he is always there 10) They call up and check on your pet to make sure they are doing okay after a visit. All in all he is a great vet, and I highly recomend him to anyone in the Okc metro area! For any pet, but especially ferrets. I had many "ferret specialist" recomended to me in my area, but Dr Wilkinson is the only one who would talk to me personally, and the only one who acted like he cared about my ferret. I got rescued Shandy from a bad situation and shortly therafter she came into heat. I made a ton of calls. He spoke to me right after his secretary told him "ferret in heat". I told him the situation, and that she had never been spayed. Alot of vets reprimanded me, basically telling me I was nuts, that the ferret was sick and that all pet ferrets were already spayed and I wasn't smart enough to know the difference! Since when are ferrets born spayed? :-) He took my word for it that I knew the ferret was unspayed. I explained to him my financial situation, and that I would not have the money for 2 weeks. He didn't care, bring her in. "But I dont have money right now. " I said. "I dont care" he said "Bring her in now" He said, he had to pay the bills, but an animals life meant more to him than money. He took my postdated check. Not only did he do a great job with Shandy, he actually said she was sweet and a pleasure to have at the office! Shandy? Nose, finger and ankle biting Shandy? My tiny terror was a pleasure? He has got to be special for Shandy bear not to bite him! The last vet I took her to had to have 2 techs hold her to give her her shots! And when I came and got her, she was as happy as I had seen her. Not shook up at all! So from now on, I will take my ferrets and my huskies, and whatever other pets may cross my path to Dr Wilkinson!
