I keep an "extra" credit card that's for medical costs only, mine or the ferrets'. Nothing else goes on that card, so I know that I've always got a cushion to fall back on in case of emergencies. It also means it's easy to figure out quickly when trips to the vet were made, because the statements are (thankfully) short, and I have a rough profile of everybody's medical history. If you're in a position where you can get another credit card, I really recommend doing so-- you can avoid heartbreak like the story we read on Thursday later on if you plan ahead now.
