I am currently a mother of two lovely ferrets, Belle and Tigger. I wanted to inform you that I was distressed to say the least to hear of your article that was written in your magazine about ferrets. This article is not accurate and gives the impression that a cat would make a much better and safer pet than a ferret. This could not be further from the truth. You see I have the right to speak on this subject because I have been fortunate enough to own two ferret and unfortunate enough to have owned two cats in the past. The first cat that I owned was pleasant enough but was very boring. The second cat I rescued was plain evil. I named him Baby but shortly after changed his name to Dick. I could not enter my home with out being attacked. He would stand right in front of the door with everyone, not just me and if we dared to enter he would attack in a vicious way to include our blood. He would hide behind furniture and attach himself to your arm, back, leg, anything and bit hard and scratch. The result was several trips to the hospital for stitches. He lasted 9 months and was taken to a shelter. My father however wanted to take him to the Chinese restaurant down the street. To hear you speak about ferrets I know that you have never owned one and properly never been in contact with one. I personally would never comment on a subject that I knew nothing about especially if I knew thousands of readers would have access to it. However, if I was foolish enough to make this mistake I would redeem myself with this injustice on ferrets and print a refraction that same week correcting my ignorance. There are also ferret shelters across the nation, there are thousands of vets that specialize in ferret care to include initial and updated rabies shots, distemper shots, general and special care. Ferrets are very smart (smarter than any cat I know), playful, lovable, cuddly, clean and give their family (owners) attention. In fact ferrets are kept indoors and not known for killing birds, moles, and other small possibly diseased animals bringing their rotting corpses home to your front door for children to plan with. You may want to start educating yourself on ferrets starting with www.ferret.org and I will start paying less attention to all articles in general because you have cast a huge doubt on the creditability of writers in general. The above is merely my opinion......Anna Curry, Belle, & Tigger, [log in to unmask] [Posted in FML issue 2455]
